Living in Meridian-Kessler | Indianapolis Neighborhood Series

For this blog, we’re highlighting one of Indianapolis’s beautiful neighborhoods, Meridian Kessler.
Meridian-Kessler Overview
As described by the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association, this neighborhood runs from the south at 38th Street to the north at Kessler Boulevard and from the east at Meridian Street to the west at the Monon Trail. The neighborhood began back in the early 1890’s when wealthy individuals built country estates along Meridian Street (Wikipedia).
Now, nearly 18,000 people live in Meridian-Kessler, and you’ll find that this neighborhood has a nice mix of younger and older residents. The majority of people in Meridian-Kessler own their homes, which range from “multi-units to mansions and everything in between” (MKNA.org).
Meridian-Kessler receives an overall A+ rating on Niche.com, with its top categories being A’s in Housing, Good for Families, Nightlife, Health & Fitness, Diversity, and Commute.
Meridian-Kessler Hot Spots
Parks & Recreation
While there aren’t many parks directly in Meridian-Kessler, there are several parks nearby and you have close access to the Monon Trail. Some of the nearby park options include.
Holliday Park | Holliday Park is one of Indianapolis’s oldest parks and encompasses 94 acres of beautiful green space. According the Holliday Park website, visitors can “explore the nature center, play on one of the city’s best, hard-to-leave playgrounds, hike more than 3.5 miles of picturesque trails or take a stroll around the one-of-a-kind Holliday Park Ruins.”
There are also other nearby parks you can explore, like Holcomb Gardens, Tarkington Park, and Canterbury Park.
Indianapolis Opera | As described by Visit Indy, “located at the Basile Opera Center in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood of Indianapolis, the mission of the Indianapolis Opera is to educate, inspire, and entertain through the creation and presentation of musical storytelling for the Hoosier community.”
Easily Access Downtown Attractions | By being close to the city, you’re never more than a quick drive to top places to play and explore, like the Indianapolis Zoo, White River State Park, The Children’s Museum, Newfields, and more.
